D6.1 -Policy Brief Reporting Period 1
The IANUS project developed tailored policy briefs to enhance trust in science, targeting key stakeholders in the European research system, including Research Funding Organizations, Research Performing Organizations, Higher Education Institutions, and policymakers. Through four co-creative policy labs (2024–2025), stakeholders collaboratively refined evidence-based strategies, contributing their expertise to validate actionable solutions. The resulting policy briefs below synthesize these insights, offering group-specific guidance to strengthen organizational trustworthiness and they were externally validated and debuted at the project’s final Brussels conference in May 2025.
Research Funding Organizations
This policy brief summarises insights from the policy lab focusing on Research Funding Organisations (RFOs), where experts from funding bodies across Europe discussed challenges and potential strategies to strengthen public trust in science from a funder’s perspective.
Research Performing Organizations
This policy brief summarizes insights from the policy lab focusing on Research Performing Organisations (RPOs), where experts from different research institutions in Europe discussed the issue of trust in science from their organisational and science as a system perspective.
Higher Education Institutions
This policy brief summarizes insights from the policy lab focusing on Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), where experts from different higher education institutions in Europe discussed the issue of trust in science from their perspective as researchers and academics.
European Policymakers
This policy brief summarizes insights from the policy lab conducted in parallel with the TrustOn Workshop and the Science Summit during the 79th United Nations General Assembly session titled “Fostering Trust in the Digital Age” in 2024, where policymakers discussed the challenges of disinformation and the decline of public trust.
The above four policy briefs have been translated into key policy recommendations for trust in science, tailored for each stakeholder group. Key takeaways are summarized in the figure.
