IANUS builds a core cluster with VERITY and POIESIS, funded under the Horizon Europe call “Societal trust in science, research and innovation”. The main goal of this joint cluster is to foster collaboration and innovation across research and innovation projects that address the challenges of societal trust in science. By combining expertise, IANUS, VERITY and POIESIS, aim to enhance the integrity and societal relevance of research, promote science-society co-creation, and develop actionable policy recommendations to improve public trust in research and innovation. Below are the descriptions of IANUS’ sister projects within this joint cluster.
VERITY
deVEloping scientific Research with ethIcs inTegritY
The VERITY project aims to uphold trust in science by promoting transparency, responsibility, and accountability. Recognizing that trust in science is essential for the acceptance and practical application of scientific findings, VERITY will address challenges such as fraudulent research and misinformation. By identifying key actors responsible for maintaining trust, the project will develop tools and methods to improve public confidence. Combining interdisciplinary expertise from social sciences and engineering, VERITY will synthesize existing knowledge and create a Protocol of Recommendations to strengthen trust in research.
POIESIS
Probing the impact of integrity and integration on societal trust in science
The POIESIS project investigates the relationship between research integrity, societal integration in research, and public trust in science. It challenges the assumption that greater involvement of societal stakeholders and responsible research practices automatically lead to increased public trust. POIESIS will explore the mechanisms behind these assumptions, examining how research practices influence public perceptions. The project aims to determine whether and how research integrity and societal integration can drive responsible knowledge creation and foster a research climate conducive to societal trust in science.
