The IANUS Project, in collaboration with sister projects POIESIS and VERITY, is excited to invite you for a Joint Final Event on May 13th and 14th, 2025, in Brussels, Belgium.
The two-day event will bring together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore critical insights and foster discussions on Trust in Science.
Our three EU-funded research projects (IANUS, POIESIS, and VERITY) were launched in 2022 and are now finalizing their results. During our three years of activities, we’ve learned important lessons on public trust in science. This is a crucial yet complex issue, shaped by various social, institutional, and technological factors. As IANUS, we have especially examined the impact of misinformation, polarization, and emerging technologies on scientific credibility.
Recognizing the importance of fostering and maintaining trust, we have also been working side by side with POIESIS and VERITY to understand the dynamics and drivers of trust in science and develop strategies and policy recommendations to strengthen it and foster a research culture that is conducive to societal trust in science.
Together, we have provided a comprehensive perspective on the challenges and opportunities for building trust in science across different contexts. Our joint final event brings together policymakers, experts, project representatives, and artists in a CoCreative World Café setting to explore the complexities of trust and distrust in science, specifically focusing on climate change, health, and technology.
As the starting point of this discussion, we will present and debate the findings and policy recommendations from IANUS, POIESIS, and VERITY. Our discussions will centre on key questions and topics, including:
- Building supportive policy frameworks that bridge science, society, and governance by prioritising benefit sharing, transparency, inclusivity, and accountability.
- Ensuring public confidence in policies and innovation grounded in validated expertise, especially in controversial debates such as pandemics, climate change and AI.
- Bridging the gap between scientific communities and the broader public, ensuring accessibility and comprehension of research findings.
- Strengthening warranted trust in science, research, and innovation while addressing societal concerns.
- Facilitating the ecosystem of trust in science in changing research environments, influenced by factors such as technological advancements, globalisation, and evolving societal needs.
- Advancing interdisciplinary, international, and cross-sector collaboration through knowledge-sharing, ethical partnerships, and inclusive citizen engagement.
- Empowering and integrating diverse stakeholders as Stewards of Trust to effectively thrive in their roles as trust gatekeepers across public, private and civil society sectors.
By facilitating this exchange, the event aims to inform policy actions that promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive engagement in scientific research and communication.
